Installation On-site June 4th:
Dymaxion Resource Translation Unit
The viewer is invited to inspect the last remaining desk from the Dymaxion Resource Translation Unit, which appears to be a normal office desk and chair, complete with office supplies and communication devices, but which does not behave in a normal fashion. By handling the various objects and elements of the Unit, office work is translated into sound via an array of sensors, microphones and a connected sound reinforcement setup.

Installation On-site June 4th:
Care Calls
Care Calls is a proposed sound work that collages clips of telephone interviews I conducted with Filipino caregivers from the L.A. area during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. These interviews are part of Care Talk, an interactive storytelling project that aimed to amplify the voices of frontline workers while exploring the connection between Filipino immigrants and the U.S. healthcare system.

Mathilda LaZelle

Installation On-site June 4th:
Viscus Fermata
DescriptionThe proposed work Viscus Fermata is part of an ongoing exploration of the strange and unfamiliar landscapes accessible just beyond ordinary human perspective. Inspired by gestational ultrasound, the artist sampled her own abdomen with a fetal doppler to produce the primary soundscape. When the doppler picks up friction from the skin the video glitches in response, revealing ghosts of uterine ultrasound imaging. This biorhythmic concoction is layered and looped to create an immersive sensory landscape.

Performance On-site June 4th:
TONANTZIN
This work continues my signature sound exploration of utilizing Ancient Mexican instruments with electronics.
My mission is to use these instruments and take advantage of the natural frequencies and sound qualities inherent in them. I want to send these instruments off to the future.
TONANTZIN the name of this work and it means "Mother Earth" in the Nahuatl language.
