SaxVonix

Performance On-site June 4th:
Self-Portraits
Although this work is based on the musical aesthetics of pitch, timbre, and structural pacing, the juxtaposition of composed and improvisatory elements of the piece makes space for the performers to explore the unique possibilities of their instruments. This implies deviating away from a traditional sense of melodic development and rhythmic meter. Alexia uses her voice to explore the unusual sounds, consonants, and expressions that are unique to her own personal experiences and emotional connection to the piece. Jeremy and Alexia often imitate one other and use this soundscape as a medium to communicate as the piece progresses as if the sounds and pitches they create are spoken words and thoughts rather than musical ideas. As a commentary on how we interact with the world around us, the audience members (at the SoundPedro live event) will be able to change the effects based on how they feel in the present moment. This will give both the performers and the audience members a chance to create a collaborative improvisation that gives room for personal freedom and experimentation.
