An hiatus
For the past two years, I've explored some of the stories that live in my stomach and diaphragm. As I probe the memories, myths, and metaphors that shape my understanding of my body, I wonder: how do these stories bear witness to trauma and violence? How can I rewrite these stories? How can they help me practice more unruly ways of being alive? What lurks in the gap between the body I know, and the body I am forever emerging into?

Funeral in my Brain
"Funeral in my Brain" is an adaptation/fragmentation of Emily Dickinson's poem, "I Felt a Funeral in my Brain." We use the poem as a frame to make sense of the experience of undergoing an MRI and viewing these images of one's insides. Accordingly, we've mapped the poem and a real MRI image of one of the artist's body on top of their body, and then perform the poem in harmony with electronic sounds imitating, mutating, and relating to the sounds produced by an MRI machine.

Moirology
Channeled experientially and epigenetically, are muted soundpoems inscribed on tablets of sound batting.

muwaren chose to mashup and arrange performances of 忆故人 (Remembering an Old Friend) and 秋江夜泊 (On a Boat in Autumn Night by the River) performed by Singaporean composer and guqin master Chung Shih Hoh.

These renditions were both an appreciation and consolation, by Chung Shih, for his first composition teacher, as the latter was nearing the end of life.

Performance at Nomad II: soundprints
October 29, 2023
Part of the Torrance Art Museum's NOMAD II

Thru the use of varied sound devices and field recordings both statically embedded in a given environment and also physically coaxed thru movement, the intent is to provide an undulating aural experience that plays upon the contrasts of distance and intimacy within the listening process.

Bioacoustic Variability
Bioacoustics as a means of data collection is a unique and developing field. Soundscape ecology allows for biological research through the application of biophonic sound intake (species identification, biodiversity estimations, etc.), but also presents the increasing intervention of anthropophonic sound and its implications.

Wire Ghost Garden
In the Wireghost Garden is a generative sound piece which arises from a simulation of spring networks, physically modeled resonators, and synthetic tape delays. Once initiated, the system runs autonomously creating an ethereal but somewhat threatening soundscape of uncertain acoustic ecology.
