As my work has evolved over the years, I’ve noticed that nearly every composition I have written uses films, songs, and texts of the past. Speaking of Which… uses mid-Century spoken word albums—mostly found at thrift stores—as the source material for music that will be assembled live during SoundPedro 2018

Source materials for Speaking of Which… may include Becoming the Sensuous Woman (1969), Teaching Your Parrot to Talk (1976), Quitting Smoking through Hypnosis (1965), and How to Make a Fortune in Real Estate with Only $400 (1948).

Steven Speciale teaches music at Loyola High School where he is also the choir director and Director of Music for Hannon Theatre where he will score his seventh play and is collaborating on writing a new musical. Additionally, Steven was invited to join a cadre of eleven international teachers as an Art21 educator for 2018-2019.

The installation, performance and intervention-based works of Brian Black and Ryan Bulis have helped the duo develop the persona known as Brian and Ryan. Their Sound Collection Helmets are a literal means to collect the sounds of a city. For Soundpedro, the helmets will collect ambient sound and conversations from the show. These recordings will be available to the other artists to customize.
