AUGUST 12th: Sound Art and Soundings (Exhibitions at MoMA, 1979 & 2013)
The first time the term sound art was used as the title of an exhibition at a major museum, Sound Art (MoMA, New York, June 25 - August 5, 1979).
Aside: "Although this was not marketed as a feminist exhibition, curator Barbara London selected three women to exemplify the new form." (The Forgotten 1979 MoMA Sound Art Exhibition by Judy Dunaway)
14 years later, MoMA presented Soundings, its first "major" exhibition featuring 16 artists who approached sound from a variety of disciplinary angles
(Aug 10 - Nov 3, 2013).
