Call by east village caravanserai*: articulations to eARThLB

Who (eligibility):
Anyone who lives, works, studies in, or has visited Long Beach, CA (in-person or digitally).

What:
· Digital image (at least 1920 pixels at widest point, preferably horizontal)
· Video (up to 1 minute)
· Sound Recording (up to 1 minute)
· Text (Prose, poetry, etc. up to 200 words) written or spoken

Submission Deadline: April 15, 2023.

Artist notification by May 1, 2023.

We are pummeled by constant bad news about our earth. Individual responses can seem inadequate. When the future feels uncertain, how do we move forward?

What do artivists say in response to these issues? That’s what we’d like to hear – whatever you choose to say, write, paint, record, dance, photograph, or compose to/for/about the fragment of the planet known as Long Beach, CA.

This is a call for artwork that can be transported (delivered) digitally, to be curated into a portmanteau (curated mash-up) video.

We’re asking for work that addresses, describes, converses with, interrogates, celebrates, howls, laughs, screams at, symbolizes or represents our land-sea-air-scape and anything in it.

Your work will be included in a portmanteau (curated mash-up) video and shown in Building G Angels Gate Cultural Center on June 3, 2023, 7 - 10 PM.
(The final video is rendered at 1920 x 1080 pixels)

Where possible, we may invite eARThLB artists to also participate live during the video screening on June 3rd. After the soundpedro2023 June 3 on-site ACE Event, eARThLB will remain accessible on the soundpedro website. It may also be screened elsewhere after soundpedro.

Submission of work to this call means that you give permission for east village caravanserai to include your work in a video along with other work. All content will be attributed in the video credits.

*east village caravanserai curates chamber theatre and other performances in small, accessible community spaces in the East Village/Downtown Long Beach area. Bringing together performing artists and audiences through shows that are socio-politically relevant to Long Beach’s communities.

You may submit up to 3 works.

To complete your submission you will need:

1. Artist contact info. Required
2. Artist bio. Required
3. Proposed work information: Title(s). Required
4. Submission files: Required
   Digital Image Provide image in jpg, jpeg, or png format, with minimum 1920 pixels on the longest edge.
   Audio in audio mp3 or wav file format.
   Video in mov, mp4, or m4v file format.
   Text as a text file(s) AND in body of an email.
