Betsy Lohrer Hall

Interactive Activation April 9 - June 4th:
Here Hear, 2022
in proximity, in real time

This is a series of sound-sensitive, site-interactive activities that will take place in and around Angels Gate Cultural Center through June 4. Betsy Lohrer Hall and several collaborators will consider the physical experience of sound perception, experiment with sound making, and respond creatively. She will offer meditative sound experiences to the public as well.

These explorations will culminate in a one-night show in the downstairs gallery at Angels Gate Cultural Center on Saturday, June 4, 7-10pm as part of soundpedro 2022.

This project is made possible in part through a grant from the Arts Council for Long Beach and We Rise 2022, and the generosity of Angels Gate Cultural Center and the FLOOD artist group.

About the Artist:
Visual artist Betsy Lohrer Hall makes works on paper, installations, and site-specific interactive projects. She has a longstanding interest in process and impermanence; this is expressed in a variety of ways, from delicate repeated marks on paper, to her use of simple, fragile materials such as thread, eggshells, or collected, cast off objects. Since 2002 her artwork has been increasingly influenced by sound and multi-sensory perception. She earned her MFA in drawing and painting from California State University, Fullerton, and her BA in studio art from Colorado College. Based in Long Beach, California, she has exhibited her work in solo and group shows along the west coast of the U.S., in Thailand and Taiwan. She is a 2022 Professional Artist Fellowship recipient from the Arts Council of Long Beach, a grant made possible in part by the City of Long Beach and the National Endowment for the Arts.
